At Bruce Stevens Dental we will discuss dental implants and your restorative options with you in depth prior to any treatment. It is important that each patient knows and understands what to expect from their treatment.
Some patients will choose not to have implants. We will also discuss the alternate treatment options available to you , so you will be in a position to make an informed decision.
Once an proposed treatment direction has been selected, a carefully prepared treatment plan will be presented after reviewing the 3-D radiographs, study models, and any other relevant clinical information.
Although the methodology is always similar for dental Implants, the exact procedure may vary from patient to patient, depending on your dental health, the bone density and quantity in the recipient site, and the number of teeth to be replaced. These factors may determine the total number of visits to the dentist throughout the treatment period.
Dental implants are regularly placed in the dental surgery under Local Anaesthesia. The procedure is less complicated than a surgical extraction. For those anxious patients oral sedation is available and in some situations dental implants are placed under General Anaesthesia in the Day Surgery.
Stage I surgery is the placement of the implants into the bony jaw. Often a surgical template is used to guide the implant placement, and bone grafting may be done before; at the time of implant placement; or after depending on the needs of each patient.
In some cases a second surgery may be needed to uncover the submerged implants.
The second phase of the treatment usually commences 3-6 months after the implant placement where the final restoration is fabricated.
